Where does VIA Rail Canada operate?

VIA Rail Canada runs inter-city rail services in Canada. There are 19 routes, covering British Columbia in the west to Nova Scotia in the east. The only provinces not served are Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island.

The Canadian government created VIA Rail Canada in 1977, merging the two existing rail companies, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific into a single entity. VIA Rail operates as an independent crown organization, subsidised by the Ministry of Transport. The majority of its routes serve the densely populated areas of Canada's eastern seaboard. There are no services to the United States; international services are provided by the US carrier Amtrak.
