Where do wild white tigers live?

Wild white tigers have historically been observed in India, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. However, white tigers are almost never seen in the wild and are much more widespread in captivity.

Slate reports that very few white tigers have ever been seen in the wild, with only a few sightings in the early 20th century. White tigers are Bengal tigers with two copies of a very rare recessive gene found in that subspecies of tiger. This genetic mutation also results in serious defects, with white tigers having problems with control and coordination of sight, as well as the processing of visual stimulation.
