The lyrics of the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul" was written by wealthy Chicago lawyer, Horatio Spafford. The music was written by composer, Philip Bliss.
Horatio Spafford wrote the lyrics to the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul," in 1873 after losing his young son, four daughters and all real estate holdings in separate tragedies in under three years. He wrote the hymn while journeying on a boat trip to England to meet his grieving wife. Composer, Philip Bliss, was very taken with the hymn and composed the accompanying music. The song was published by Bliss and Sankey, in 1876.
