"The Westing Game" is a book by Ellen Raskin. Written for children, the book is a fictional story about the heirs of deceased millionaire Samuel Westing and their plight to earn his inheritance by solving the mystery of who murdered him.
The book, published in 1978 and later adapted into a film, won the Newbery Medal in 1979. In the book, the 16 heirs of Samuel Westing divide into teams of two tasked with unraveling clues that eventually lead to the identity of Westing's murderer. The team that solves the murder inherits his $200 million fortune and ownership of his company.
