Who wrote "The Raven"?

"The Raven" was written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1845. It was first published in the New York Evening Mirror and quickly became one of his most successful works.

"The Raven" begins with a student sitting in his study at night, thinking of his deceased love, Lenore. A raven shows up, and the student begins to ask him questions. The raven answers each one with, "Nevermore." The student frustrates and tortures himself by continuing to ask the bird deeper and more personal questions.

In 1846, Edgar Allan Poe published "The Philosophy of Composition," an essay that explained the writing process behind the creation of "The Raven." He continued writing until his death in 1849.
