"Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," a story about a young mongoose, comes from "The Jungle Book" written by English writer, poet and novelist Rudyard Kipling. Kipling wrote several short stories, poems and children's books.

The story of "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" follows a brave young mongoose after he is adopted as a pet and as protection against cobra snakes by a British family living in India. The cobra snakes he battles are named Nag and Nagina. He is friendly with other animals, including Darzee, the tailor-bird and Chuchundra, the muskrat. The story was made into an animated short in 1965. In 1975, it was made into a live-action film in the Soviet Union. It was also made into an animated TV special in the United States by animator Chuck Jones in 1975.
