What year was the IBM PC first introduced?

IBM introduced its first PC on Aug. 12, 1981, in a press conference at the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria in New York. IBM's first PC had a price tag of $1,565.

The first IBM PC came with a system unit powered by an Intel 8088 microprocessor as and an 83-key keyboard that connected to the computer with a 6-foot cable. The PC had 40 kilobytes of read-only memory and 16 kilobytes of user memory that could be upgraded with 32- or 64-kilobyte memory cards, potentially increasing the memory to 256 kilobytes. The computer could be plugged into a TV set, but there was also an optional 16-color monitor. The user could purchase a separate printer that was capable of printing at speeds up to 80 characters per second. Floppy disk drives and gaming paddles were also sold separately.
