The Shulton Company, founded by William Lightfoot Schultz, introduced Early American Old Spice for men in 1938. Proctor & Gamble bought the Old Spice product line in 1990.
William Schultz established the Shulton Company in 1934 and originally sold personal hygiene products for women. The company released Early American Old Spice for women one year before the men's version. Proctor & Gamble later updated the fragrance, renaming it Old Spice Classic, as of 2015. Old Spice continues to be a top aftershave lotion, distinguished by the trademark colonial sailing ships on each bottle. The company featured various ships on the bottle through the years, but the theme remains the same.
