Where do anacondas live?

Anacondas live in the tropical lowlands of South America and to the east of the Andes Mountains. They are aquatic reptiles and primarily live near bodies of stagnant water.

Anacondas prefer shallow water with thick vegetation cover, and while they are good swimmers, they prefer to lie submerged in water. They also can be found sunbathing near river banks and near cave entrances. Their large size prohibits them from moving well on land, however, so anacondas spend most of their time in the water. Their eyes and nasal passages are located on the top of their heads, allowing them to stay submerged for hours at time waiting for prey to come close.
