According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bed bug bites may cause itching in some people. If a person scratches the bites, it is possible to develop skin infections.
Bed bugs are small, parasitic insects that thrive on the blood of humans and animals during sleep, states the CDC. These pesky creatures are usually found in bedding. In order to determine if a bed bug infestation is present, the CDC advises looking for the following signs: exoskeletons from beg bugs that have gone through the molting process, bed bugs hidden in between mattresses or sheets, faint blood-colored stains on bedding or nearby, and a sweet, musty odor that lingers in the air.
