What is a caladium plant?

Caladium is a foliage plant with heart-shaped leaves in various shades of red, pink, white and green. Most varieties of caladium love the shade, but some thrive in the sun.

Caladium tubers should be planted in well-drained soil in the spring once the ground temperature has reached 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The smaller tubers should be planted 6 to 8 inches apart, while the larger ones should be planted 12 to 18 inches apart.

Caladium planted in the shade grows taller and has larger leaves than caladium planted in the sun. The soil should be moist at all times, and caladium plants grown in the shade require more water than those grown in the shade.
