What do you call a Shih Tzu - Dachshund mix?

A Shih Tzu-Dachshund mix is called a Schweenie. Schweenies are usually short with long backs like Dachshunds. They have floppy ears and a medium-length, scraggly looking coat in a rusty color. They can weigh 9 to 20 pounds when fully grown.

The Schweenie is intended to be a small, easy-to-train and easy-to-care-for pet. It is ideal for apartment living and requires very little grooming. It needs companionship and does not do well if left alone often. Although the back is longer than that of a purebred Shih Tzu, it is not as long as that of a purebred Dachshund, so the dog does not suffer from the back problems common to Dachshunds.
