What is a Maltese-Shih Tzu mix?

A Maltese mixed with a Shih Tzu may be called a Maltese Shih Tzu, a Mal-Shi, a Shih-Tese, a Shihtese, a Malti Tzu or a Shima. A Maltese Shih Tzu is a small dog, standing only 10 inches high at the shoulder.

Maltese Shih Tzus were bred to be hypoallergenic, non-shedding companion dogs. They are cheerful, easy to train and get along well with children, other dogs and other pets. They require only moderate exercise, but do need regular brushing to keep their long, soft wavy fur from matting. Maltese Shih Tzus can suffer from respiratory problems and need to be kept in climate-controlled homes.
