Can dogs eat ham?

Dogs should not be given ham to eat. It is high in fat and sodium, both of which can make dogs sick or even kill them.

The fat in ham and other fatty meats can cause pancreatitis in dogs. Eating ham, which is cured with salt, can cause dogs to drink excessive amounts of water. If a large dog drinks too much water, its stomach can fill with gas. This can cause the stomach to twist, which is potentially fatal.

Other foods that dogs should not be given are chicken or turkey bones, onions, grapes, chocolate and liver. All of these make dogs sick and can kill them.
