Pepto-Bismol works by fighting toxins by coating the intestines with the bismuth and reduces fluid secretions that cause diarrhea with the subsalicylate medication, according to petMD. Pepto-Bismol is available in a liquid form and 262 milligram tablets. Do not give the medication to dogs with bleeding disorders or give two doses at a time.
