It is perfectly safe to give Pepto-Bismol to dogs, according to petMD. It is not safe for cats, however. Pepto-Bismol is sold over the counter.

Pepto-Bismol, or bismuth subsalicylate, is a remedy for indigestion, upset stomach and diarrhea. It also has mild antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Pepto-Bismol works by fighting toxins by coating the intestines with the bismuth and reduces fluid secretions that cause diarrhea with the subsalicylate medication, according to petMD. Pepto-Bismol is available in a liquid form and 262 milligram tablets. Do not give the medication to dogs with bleeding disorders or give two doses at a time.
