What is honeycomb calcite?

Honeycomb calcite, also called amber onyx, is a translucent, marble-like stone. It is mined exclusively in the state of Utah. Its name comes from the honeycomb appearance when viewing a polished surface.
Unlike other forms of calcite, the honeycomb calcite does not fade easily when exposed to sunlight, and it readily accepts high polish. Its patterns, colors, translucency and transparency are also unique. Since the stone is transparent and translucent, it offers a luminous glow when illuminated with any form of lighting. It is ideal for cutting, carving and polishing for any decorative stone application. The stone does not fluoresce.
