How many eggs can a clownfish lay?

Female clownfish, also known as anemonefish or by their scientific name Amphiprion percula, can lay between 100 and 1,000 eggs. The eggs are laid in a nest built by the male clownfish on rock or coral near the host anemone.
The clownfish eggs typically hatch in four to five days, during which time the male protects the eggs from predators.
Clownfish and the species of anemones that host them, including Heteractis crispa, Heteractis magnifica and Stichodactyla gigantea, enjoy a symbiotic relationship. The anemone offers shelter from predators, and the clownfish provides the anemone with scraps of food that the clownfish leaves behind.
