How many representatives are there in the U.S. House of Representatives?

There are 435 members in the United States House of Representatives and each of these members represents approximately 710,000 people, as noted by Indiana University's The Center on Congress. California has the most representatives with 53 members, Texas is second with 36 members and New York and Florida are third with 27 members.

The states with the fewest number of representatives include Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming, as each of these states only have a single representative. The representative members are chosen based on the population size within each state with the total number of members unable to exceed the 435 member mark.
