How much dung does an elephant produce in a day?

On average, an African elephant consumes about 300 pounds of leaves, bushes and grasses per day causing it to produce about 165 pounds of dung, or poop, daily. This means that of the vegetation an elephant consumes, 45 percent is fully utilized by the elephant and not excreted.
Though an elephant produces a large amount of dung, its waste is good for the Earth. Since an elephant's diet consists primarily of leaves, fruits and seeds, it produces a nutrient-rich excrement, which makes it extremely useful for germination. Elephants that reside in the forest account for a great deal of new forest growth.
