When do you plant creeping thyme?

Creeping thyme, or mother-of-thyme, seeds or starter plants should be planted outdoors in the spring, after all chance of frost has passed or in early fall for best results. Established plants can be divided and replanted in the spring months to give them a full growing season to establish roots.

Creeping thyme, hardy in USDA plant zones 4 through 9, thrives in full sun to partial shade and should have access to well-draining soil with a neutral pH level. Creeping thyme plants grow from 2 to 4 inches tall with a horizontal spread of 2 feet or more, forming a low, dense, aromatic mat.
