The youngest coach to win the NCAA Division I men's basketball championship was Branch McCracken, who was 31 years old when he coached the winning Indiana Hoosiers team in 1940. McCracken managed to replicate his NCAA championship glory once again in 1953, still as the coach of the Indiana team.
Other young coaches include Harold Foster, who coached the winning Wisconsin team in 1941 at age 34; Fred Taylor, who was 35 years and 3 months old when his Ohio State team won in 1960; and Bob Knight, whose Indiana team won in 1976 when Knight was 35 years and 5 months old.
