How do you do squats?

To do squats, stand with your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees slightly, tuck in your abs and keep your back as straight as possible. Tighten your body, and slowly lower yourself down. Slowly rise back up to complete one squat. Doing squats regularly helps to tone your core body muscles and increases your overall fitness.
- Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, and bend your knees
Place your feet shoulder width apart, and plant them firmly on the ground. Bend your knees slightly as if you are about to sit down. Do not bend your knees beyond your toes.
- Tuck in your abs, and keep your back straight
Tighten the abdominal muscles, and hold your back upright. It’s fine if your back arches slightly, just keep it as straight as possible. Stretch your arms out in front of you to maintain balance.
- Tighten your body, and slowly lower yourself
To maintain slow, controlled movement, contract all of the muscles in your body before lowering into the squat. Slowly lower yourself by bending your knees until your thighs are nearly parallel to the floor. Hold this position briefly, then gently lift yourself back to the starting position. This completes one squat.
