Whales don't mate for life. Some species of whale mate with many different partners in a single year. This most often happens during mating season when many whales gather together to mate and bear offspring.

There are two suborders or whales. Baleen whales use a baleen found on the upper jaw to filter plankton, small fish and crustaceans. Toothed whales have teeth and eat fish squid, other whales and marine mammals. Whales are warm-blooded, and they feed their young milk. Underneath their skin they have a layer of blubber. The blubber keeps them warm and also stores energy. Whales use blowholes to breathe. Baleen whales have two blowholes and toothed whales have one.
