Veteran's Day is considered a federal holiday in the United States and is celebrated on Nov. 11 each year. This date was first established in 1919 by President Wilson and most recently signed into effect by President Ford in 1935.

Veteran's Day was originally established as Armistice Day and was first celebrated on Nov. 11, 1919. This initial celebration was due to the fact that fighting associated with World War I finally ceased on the 11th day of the 11th month and at the 11th hour in 1918. The majority of federal and state business offices are closed to commemorate Veteran's Day.
