Can recalled Kenmore dishwashers cause fires?

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends people stop using recalled Kenmore dishwashers immediately as there is an electrical defect in certain models. The defect is within the dishwasher's wash motor wiring and can cause the motor to overheat, which may result in a fire.

As of March 2015, the recalled dishwashers are under-the-counter, plastic tall-tub dishwashers and are from either the Kenmore or Whirlpool brands. The dishwashers come with black, white, biscuit or stainless front panels. The CPSC advises consumers who are unsure if their dishwasher is affected to immediately stop using it and call Whirlpool Corporation to determine if their model is included in the recall.
