What is the normal salt intake per day for children?
By Forinfos - 20/02/2026 - 0 comments
The recommendation for all children and adults over two years of age is to have less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day. Salt is a common form of sodium.
Some people get unique recommendations for how much sodium to have per day, such as African Americans and people with conditions like chronic kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. These are typically for adults, but some children may have the conditions as well. Another recommendation is to have foods low in sodium, but high in potassium. Some of these foods include yogurt, bananas, dry beans and potatoes. Processed foods are among the foods that contain the highest amount of salt.
