A baby wolverine is called a "kit," the same name given to baby foxes. Two or three kits are usually born at a time, and these groups are called a "litter."
Wolverine mothers usually give birth to a litter once every two to three years. The litter is born about two months after the mother becomes pregnant. The kits are nursed until they are about 10 weeks old, at which time they begin to venture out of the den and hunt for their own food. The fathers continue to visit their offspring periodically until they are finished weaning. Kits usually leave the den for good at around 6 months of age.
