Is a Wheaten terrier hypoallergenic?

Soft-coated wheaten terriers are generally considered to be a hypoallergenic dog breed in part because wheaten terriers are a single-coated breed. However, there is some debate about whether any dog breeds are actually hypoallergenic at all.

Single-coated breeds, such as wheaten terriers, shed only lightly. Some believe that this reduces the amount of allergens to which the dog owner is exposed. However, all dogs produce some allergens in the form of dander, hair and saliva. An allergy sufferer should spend some time with several different wheaten terriers, if possible, to determine if the breed causes his allergies to flare up.
