Who walks down the aisle first, the maid or the matron of honor?

The chief attendant of the bride, in Western wedding customs, is referred to as the "maid of honor" if unmarried and the "matron of honor" if married. She walks down the aisle in the wedding procession alone after the other bridesmaids.
After the maid or matron of honor, the ring bearer and flower girl proceed down the aisle, followed by the bride and her father or escort. The best man, as the counterpart of the maid or matron of honor, waits at the altar with the groom. As a rule, most Western Christian and secular weddings hold with this tradition.
